Dr. Nicolas J. Comeau, PsyD (Psychologist)

Dr. Nicolas J. Comeau is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2017. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he majored in Psychology. Dr. Comeau provides individual therapy to adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and many other challenges. Dr. Comeau is especially interested in the treatment of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He uses a combination of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Comeau is dedicated to what he does, and he believes that with support, encouragement, and new strategies, clients can overcome obstacles and find meaning and fulfillment.

In addition to therapy, Dr. Comeau provides psychological assessment/testing for children, adolescents, and adults. Testing is used to help clarify diagnoses and develop treatment recommendations. The symptoms of many mental health conditions overlap. For example, trouble concentrating is a symptom of ADHD, anxiety, and depression, and it can be difficult to tell which condition is making it difficult to focus. Psychological testing can provide the answer, and testing can shed light on which treatment approach may be the most helpful for the person’s specific needs and concerns. During each assessment, Dr. Comeau uses a variety of procedures, such as intelligence tests, achievement tests, personality questionnaires, symptom inventories, and projective tests. At the end of the assessment process, Dr. Comeau offers a feedback session. During the feedback session, he explains the test results and the treatment recommendations in a clear, accessible manner. Clients are encouraged to ask questions and share any concerns that they may have.
